Stygian White (Etheree)

Old roof
Bathed in pools
Of cloud’s sad gift
Vexing sullen shack
Who trembles holding back
To spite the stygian white
Marred branches of uneven size
Four frail panes worrying one weak latch
Windows of danger close nigh the rain’s pass

For Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 120, “Cold & Storm,” #SynonymsOnly I used sullen and rain.

Joke (Etheree)

joke’s on you
at the expense
of me, laughably
simple, yet blind to see
tears hot and riddled by truth
crashing through this spiteful lampoon
inner voice rails with the unanswered
stricken to rise from your luring banter

For Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 119 “Mystery & Attract,” #SynonymsOnly I used riddled (as a verb rather than a noun) and luring.

Drawing Blanks (Etheree)

the tip
of pencil
leaning over
my unfurnished words
soaring to embrace her
emptiness grips this paper
forlorn delights of torn graphite
splinters collide into tender lines
despondent mischief in a new year’s eyes

For Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 117, “Poet’s Choice of Words” I have selected to use synonyms for hopeless and shred – so I used despondent and forlorn, and also torn and splinters.

Yarn (Etheree Poem)

barren yard
lavishly spread
spools of twine pulled tight
disguising my sound threads
rigorous patterns alight
secured strings wound up as trip lines
bitter tension hides before your eyes
ensnaring wayfarers in knotty yarn

For Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge: Cold & Safe, #SynonymsOnly.

I’m using the primary synonyms bitter (for cold) and secured (for safe), and secondary related words of rigorous and sound.

Hounds (Etheree Poem)

hungry eyes feast upon the regale spread
figures peer from pallid old shutters
mountains of mash, gravy ravines
hail the window pane with fog
stray paws lean on the glass
’til words discourage
turkey resounds
tails rebound

Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge: Celebrate & Number, #SynonymsOnly.

The words I selected for this week’s synonym challenge were resound (for celebrate) and figure (for number).

Derelict Adventure (Etheree Poem)

buried in shelves
skittish print dust bound
dulcet yet derelict
flush with want, packed full of life
voracious for discovery
but time bodes ill of this adventure
pale refuse neglected by its seeker

For Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge: Pleasant & Read, #SynonymsOnly.

I used Dulcet & Flush (a transitive verb for color of Red which is a homophone of the past tense of Read, which has a different pronunciation).

News (Etheree Poem)

whisper-408482_1280someone close to me told me a secret
it wasn’t you, but I’m sure you’ll keep it
to know news is no accident
but to share in confidence
is a coincidence
nothing’s classified
when scrutinized

For Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge

For this challenge I selected synonyms for gossip and story. I really like the Etheree style so I had to give it another go!
