Roots (Tanka)

For Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 125 #SynonymsOnly Origin & Write, I used Roots & Pen (though to be fair, I was using Pen as a way to enclose, rather than to write…).

Left bare – my roots dried
Below singing her sorrow
Human waste chokes life
She dawns a dress to pen Spring
Disease, it seems, lets it fall

This is one of my own watercolors that inspired me to write, or dare I say to pen?

Duel (Tanka)

Clear this idle deck
I’m to force friends to duel
Planks won’t walk themselves
When laggard swords aren’t talking
Love pains me to be shipwrecked

For Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 121, “Slow & Work,” #SynonymsOnly, I used idle and laggard for slow, and force and pains for synonyms of work. This time ’round, my usage of “dual” synonyms gives this a bit of fun with having “duel” as a title.

Sun Down (Tanka Poem)

Guiding worn geese fleeing east

Reflecting soft sounds

Weary fish scuttle beneath

Blue waves drag dreary sun down

This is my attempt at Tanka poetry (5-7-5-7-7) so I may have taken liberties with the style, but I had a lot of fun with this prompt from Kiwinana: #OctPoWriMo – Day 10 – #Weekly Tanka Prompt #Poetry Challenge – Week 117 – Sunset & Theme
